On Tuesday, Merseyside Police confirmed that a 9-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries in a regional hospital a day after the attack. Two other girls, aged 6 and 7, died at the scene of the Monday attack in Southport, a coastal town in northwest England, according to BBC News. Five other children and two adults remain in critical condition. In a statement on Monday, police announced the arrest of a 17-year-old male on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. A knife was recovered at the scene.
Reacting on Instagram, Swift said the horror of the attack was overwhelming her. She wrote, “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock. The loss of life, the innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, including the families and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class.
