In a recent interview with Hip TV, popular comedian Kenny Blaq clarified a common misconception about his role in the development of music comedy in Nigeria.

Contrary to some beliefs, he did not originate the genre. Instead, Blaq acknowledged the contributions of pioneers such as the late Gbenga Adeboye, CD John, and others, who laid the groundwork for music comedy in Nigeria.

However, Blaq believes his approach to the genre introduced a new dimension. He described how he infused “the Wizkid and Davido vibe” into his music comedy, distinguishing his work from that of his predecessors.

According to Blaq, while earlier music comedians focused primarily on specific styles and regional languages like Igbo or Yoruba, his work was characterized by a diverse mix of genres. He employed mashups, covers, and storytelling, maintaining a high level of consistency and creativity.

Blaq emphasized that while he did not invent music comedy, his innovative approach has significantly contributed to its evolution and popularity in Nigeria.
