The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy who was electrocuted while assisting his step-father at a construction site.

The incident occurred on August 2, and the details were provided by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the command.

According to Hundeyin, the boy’s mother reported the incident to the Agbado Police Division at around 1:00 p.m. on the same day. She had received alarming news from her younger brother earlier at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The report indicated that her son had accompanied his step-father, a welder, to help with building scaffolding at a construction site on Church Street, Alagbado.

During their work, the boy accidentally stepped on a live wire that was improperly connected to an electric pole.

This resulted in an immediate electric shock, leading to his death on the spot. Despite efforts to save him by rushing him to the hospital, the attending doctor confirmed the boy’s death upon arrival.

The police dispatched a team of detectives to the scene to investigate. They found no signs of violence, and the body has since been removed from the site.

The step-father has been taken into police custody for questioning as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
