WAEC Withholds 215,267 Results Over Exam Malpractice
Following the release of the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that the results of 215,267 candidates are being withheld due to various reported cases of examination malpractice. A total of 1,805,216 candidates from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria took the exam.
Out of these candidates, 1,685,889 (93.39 percent) have had all their papers released, while 119,327 (6.61 percent) still have some subjects under processing. The council noted a 4.37 percent decrease in malpractice cases compared to the 2023 exams. In terms of performance, 1,332,089 candidates (73.79 percent) achieved credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without English and Mathematics. However, there was a 7.69 percent drop in the pass rate for those who obtained credit in five subjects, including English and Mathematics, compared to the 2023 results.

US President Donald Trump criticizes the Nigeria government once again after the increase of insecurity over the past few days. The president stated that the government is failing to protect Christian communities from the attacks going on.
“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said. “They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping.”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar speaks out against the rising insecurity in the country. He urged the government to take action and claimed that it is not too late to declare a state of emergency.
He reacted after another news of abduction of students was announced on the 21st of November.
“How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken? It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
