NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rain Across Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall across Nigeria from Thursday through Saturday.
According to the agency’s recent outlook released in Abuja, the country will experience a variety of weather conditions over the coming days.
On Thursday morning, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to develop over Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states.
In the North Central region, moderate rain showers are predicted for Niger State during the morning, with similar rainfall expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue states later in the day.
The southern region is expected to experience intermittent rain in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the afternoon and evening hours.
On Friday morning, thunderstorms are forecasted for Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano states, with scattered thunderstorms expected across the northern region in the afternoon and evening.
For the North Central region, NiMet predicts isolated rains over Niger, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau States in the morning, followed by moderate rainfall in Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States later in the day.
The southern region will see cloudy skies in the morning, with intermittent rain expected in the afternoon and evening.
Saturday’s forecast includes isolated thunderstorms in Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi States in the morning. Thunderstorms are expected to become widespread across the northern region by the afternoon and evening.
In the North Central region, moderate rains are predicted in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue states during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected later in the day.
The southern region will experience intermittent rain throughout the afternoon and evening hours.
NiMet has issued a cautionary note advising residents in major cities to stay away from flood-prone areas due to the high risk of urban flooding from heavy rains.
The forecast also warns of strong winds that may accompany thunderstorms. The public, including airline operators, is encouraged to stay updated with NiMet’s weather reports for better planning and safety.
