The Bayelsa State Vigilante Security Service has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cultist named Christopher Izzy, also known as Machala. He was caught on Monday, August 19, 2024, after one of his robbery victims identified him in Yenagoa.
Izzy, originally from Edo State, has been wanted for several robberies, cult activities, and carrying fake firearms. The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, confirmed that Izzy and his gang have been targeting supermarkets, POS stores, and pedestrians using commercial tricycles, known as Keke Napep.
During the arrest, the vigilante team found a fake gun, a phone, and illegal drugs on Izzy. Alagba said this arrest is a big step in fighting crime in the state.
One victim, Stanley Ogodo, a supermarket owner, said Izzy and his gang had robbed his store nine times. Ogodo described how the gang held customers at gunpoint and stole money, goods, and other valuables.
The capture of Machala is a major success for the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service in their efforts to reduce crime.

Isaac Fayose Criticizes Government Over Taxation and Insecurity
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has spoken about what he considers one of the country’s biggest problems, stating that many Nigerians are worried about government taxation, insecurity, and the increasing rate of kidnappings for ransom.
He lamented the situation and criticized the government, arguing that these issues have become deeply rooted and that there appears to be no lasting solution in sight.
According to him “In Nigeria we have two governments. One is collecting tax, the other one is collecting ransom. Both of them have one thing in common which is to make life difficult for their people.
The one that is collecting tax without doing anything will come and share you rice and semolina. The one that is collecting ransom is doing giveaway on social media.”
