Pastor Kumuyi Explains Decision to Host Muslim Clerics at Church Conference
Pastor William Kumuyi, the founder of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has explained his decision to invite Muslim clerics to speak from the pulpit during a recent church conference.
The clarification came while he was preaching on Monday at the Change Makers International (CMI) conference, held at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The sight of Muslim clerics wearing traditional caps while addressing the congregation from the church’s pulpit has stirred significant discussion and controversy on social media.
In response to the backlash, Pastor Kumuyi addressed the issue in a now-viral video, explaining that the conference was held in a stadium setting rather than within the church’s traditional premises.
Pastor Kumuyi stated, “Some people questioned my decision, noting the clerics wearing their caps. However, we are in a stadium environment, not within the church building.
As such, I did not see it as necessary to address the issue of attire; the setting was different from our usual church context.” This explanation was aimed at clarifying his stance and mitigating the ongoing debates surrounding the event.

“Rather than play the ostrich and cover up clear terrorism as mere farmer-herder clashes, the Nigerian state has a responsibility to invade the camps of armed marauders who hide under the cloak of herdsmen of whatever ethnicity, and who invade defenceless communities and gleefully massacre unarmed men, women and children.”
