Dramatic Rise in Cannabis Smuggling: NCA Cracks Down on Brazen Couriers
The NCA has reported a significant increase in cannabis smuggling attempts, with couriers boldly transporting large quantities through UK airports.
Recent arrests include a man from Los Angeles with 158 kilos of cannabis and 11 British passengers from Thailand with 510 kilos.
Charles Yates, NCA’s deputy director, highlighted the audacity of these smugglers, noting that many mistakenly believe they will only face fines.
However, the reality is harsher, with numerous arrests and jail sentences. The NCA has seen arrests rise from 17 in 2022 to 378 this year, with cannabis seizures increasing from two to 15 tonnes.
Most couriers come from countries where cannabis is legal, such as Canada and the US. Despite misconceptions, the potency of legally grown cannabis is similar to UK-grown varieties.
The NCA continues to work with Border Force and international partners to combat drug trafficking and target key players in the supply chain.

Isaac Fayose Criticizes Government Over Taxation and Insecurity
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has spoken about what he considers one of the country’s biggest problems, stating that many Nigerians are worried about government taxation, insecurity, and the increasing rate of kidnappings for ransom.
He lamented the situation and criticized the government, arguing that these issues have become deeply rooted and that there appears to be no lasting solution in sight.
According to him “In Nigeria we have two governments. One is collecting tax, the other one is collecting ransom. Both of them have one thing in common which is to make life difficult for their people.
The one that is collecting tax without doing anything will come and share you rice and semolina. The one that is collecting ransom is doing giveaway on social media.”
