IPMAN to Meet Dangote Refinery Over Petrol Pricing and Supply
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced plans to meet with Dangote Refinery to discuss petrol pricing and supply.
This move follows a statement from Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, who claimed that local marketers are avoiding Dangote Refinery’s petrol despite its lower prices.
In response, IPMAN’s representative, Maigandi, emphasized that there is no reason for marketers to boycott Dangote Refinery’s petrol if it is being offered at a lower cost.
Maigandi noted that IPMAN received a partnership letter from Dangote Refinery on Wednesday and reviewed it on Thursday.
He clarified that petrol marketers are willing to buy from Dangote Refinery as long as the price is competitive with current rates.
Maigandi said, “In the letter, Dangote Refinery mentioned that its petrol is ready, but the price was not disclosed.
We cannot boycott Dangote Refinery if their petrol is cheaper.
We are prepared to purchase petrol from them under the condition that it is priced no higher than what we are currently paying elsewhere.
We have no issues with Dangote Refinery.”
He also pointed out that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) sells petrol directly to marketers at an average price of N870 per liter, while the depot price is N990 per liter.
This context underlines the importance of competitive pricing in the ongoing discussions between IPMAN and Dangote Refinery.
