Mercy Johnson Faces Backlash for Endorsing APC Candidate
Nollywood star Mercy Johnson is once again in the spotlight, but this time for her involvement in politics.
The actress, known for her wide-reaching influence, has thrown her support behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is urging her fan base to follow suit.
She recently endorsed Senator Monday Okpebholo as her preferred candidate for the upcoming Edo gubernatorial elections, sparking a wave of reactions online.
While some of her followers are aligning with her views, a considerable number have voiced their displeasure, accusing her of using her celebrity status to push a political agenda.
Critics argue that public figures should be cautious when mixing entertainment with politics, while her supporters defend her right to express her political stance.
Johnson’s involvement has stirred debates about the role of influencers in shaping political decisions, with many wondering how much weight a celebrity endorsement can carry.
Despite the criticism, the actress remains steadfast in her endorsement of the APC and Senator Okpebholo, fueling further discussion as the election approaches.
Nigerian singer BNXN has made a claim online that has generated mixed reactions. The singer stated that living in Lagos is more expensive than living in Los Angeles, drawing from his personal experience in the United States.
Speaking about life abroad, BNXN explained that there are fewer financial obligations and requests for money compared to Nigeria, where people are often expected to support relatives and acquaintances.
“I was telling someone, since I got to the United States, I haven’t seen one egbon adugbo asking me to press money. Lagos is too expensive abeg. Lagos is more expensive than LA (Los Angeles),” BNXN stated.
It can be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed charges against Blessing CEO over an alleged ₦13 million fraud case.
The case is reportedly linked to claims that the influencer obtained ₦13 million through an alleged cancer-related fundraising scheme.
It can also be recalled that Blessing CEO previously claimed she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer, a revelation that drew sympathy from many people and reportedly led to financial support from members of the public.
While investigations are still ongoing, the influencer remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James celebrated her 31st birthday and shared pictures on social media with her daughter.
The influencer spoke about how her life has changed and described motherhood as the greatest gift she has received.
