Labour Party Urges Voters to Ignore Obaseki’s “Do or Die” Comments

The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has urged voters to disregard the provocative comments made by some political figures during the campaign for the gubernatorial election.
With over 2.2 million eligible voters poised to elect a new governor today, the LP emphasizes the importance of staying focused on the election rather than getting distracted by inflammatory rhetoric.
The race features three major parties: the All Progressives Congress (APC), represented by Senator Monday Okpebholo; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with Asue Ighodalo as its candidate; and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
Concerns have risen regarding statements made by incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is backing Ighodalo.
Obaseki controversially claimed that the election would be a “do or die” affair, suggesting high stakes and potential violence.
During a campaign event on September 13, Obaseki stated, “This election is a do or die.
Do you want insecurity? Do you want uneducated leaders? Next Saturday, you will vote for the PDP and our next governor, Asue Ighodalo.”
Despite facing backlash, he reiterated this sentiment in a television interview, saying, “It’s a do-or-die affair because if they do, we die.”
Such statements have alarmed many voters. One concerned citizen, Mr. Henry Osariemen, expressed fears that the election could be marred by violence, stating, “Many people are hesitant to vote because politicians have declared war.
A sitting governor calling the election a do or die is serious.” He cited a recent assassination attempt on a local lawmaker as evidence of the dangerous climate surrounding the election.
In response to these developments, Kelly Ogbaloi, the Edo State Chairman of the Labour Party, dismissed Obaseki’s remarks as “worthless propaganda.”
He urged voters to ignore the threats and come out in large numbers to support their preferred candidates.
“We encourage our electorates to dismiss such statements that could lead to self-disqualification from participating in the election,” Ogbaloi said.
He emphasized that the Labour Party is well-prepared and confident in its chances of winning.
The LP’s leadership is determined to rally voters, focusing on the need for a peaceful electoral process.
They encourage the electorate to stay engaged and prioritize their choices over divisive tactics employed by political opponents.
As the election unfolds, the Labour Party is calling for unity among voters to ensure that their voices are heard and that democracy prevails in Edo State.

Amaechi Says Buhari Performed Better Than Tinubu

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, believes that despite his shortcomings, former President Muhammadu Buhari performed better than the current administration under President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Amaechi admitted Buhari didn’t achieve everything he set out to do, but insisted that things were still better under his leadership compared to now. “Buhari will be the first to tell you he didn’t accomplish all his plans, but by every standard, his government outperformed this one,” Amaechi said.
The former Rivers State governor pointed to areas like security and the independence of institutions, especially the electoral commission, as key areas where Buhari did better. “In terms of security, Buhari placed more focus there. When it comes to the independence of INEC, there was far more freedom under Buhari than we’re seeing now,” he added.
Amaechi also criticised the current state of politics, claiming that new political parties can’t even get registered because of interference from government officials. He made it clear that his comments are not personal, saying he would have been the first to commend President Tinubu if things were going well.

Amaechi Says It’s Time for a Southern President to Rule Nigeriar

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has maintained that Nigeria’s next president should come from the South. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Amaechi stressed that while power should shift to the South, competence and character must be the key factors in choosing leaders, not just regional sentiment.
He pointed out that the coming elections won’t just be about political parties but will be a fight between everyday Nigerians and the political class. In his words, “Nigeria belongs to everyone. We can’t keep running a system where one region holds all the power and others are sidelined. There are capable leaders in the South. It’s time to restore balance and deliver real results.”
Amaechi added that the elections should not be based on blind party loyalty, saying, “This is about Nigerians taking a stand against the political elite. If we truly want change, now is the time to act.” He believes the South is prepared to take the lead, promising a platform that gives every Nigerian a voice and renewed hope.

Deji Adeyanju Hails Atiku and Others for Dumping PDP to Unite Opposition

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has praised top opposition figures for uniting to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections. Adeyanju commended leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others for leaving the party to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as long overdue.
Notable names like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, and others have dumped the PDP to adopt the ADC as their new platform to confront President Bola Tinubu’s government in the next polls. They’ve also called on other PDP members to join forces for what they describe as a collective push for change.
Reacting on Facebook, Adeyanju expressed excitement, saying it’s good to see the opposition finally working together. “I’m proud they’ve come together at last. Special appreciation to Atiku, Obi, and the others for setting aside personal interests to make this possible,” he wrote.
He further encouraged NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the alliance, saying this unity was exactly what the opposition lacked in the last election. “Whenever you wake up is your morning. Good morning to the opposition,” he added.
