Davido Explains Interest in Edo Governorship Election
Afrobeats star Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has shared why he’s deeply invested in the ongoing Edo State governorship election. Residents across Edo turned out in large numbers to vote, and Davido has been vocal on social media, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of malpractice.
Addressing questions about his interest in the election, despite not being from Edo, Davido explained that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was originally from the state. He also emphasized that, as a Nigerian, everyone should be concerned about electoral fairness. Davido recalled a similar situation during the Osun State election, when his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, ran for office. He also endorsed PDP candidate Asuen Ighodalo for the Edo election via Instagram.

He shared a post on his Instagram page and captioned “On the 18th of December 2022. I came out of a brain surgery that removed a tumour in my brain. I’m grateful to God for life. Join me and celebrate. For everyone struggling with any form of health condition, you will be fine at last.”
