Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his firm commitment to the rule of law, human rights, and inclusive governance for everyone, no matter their political background. In a message shared on Democracy Day, Fubara said his government remains focused on protecting lives and property while promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability in leadership.

He promised to keep standing for the people of Rivers State and to lead with honesty and openness. Reflecting on 26 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria, the governor called for unity and cooperation across party lines to build a society where every voice counts and every person can contribute meaningfully.

Speaking on the political unrest in Rivers, including his suspension and that of other elected officials, Fubara said these events highlight how fragile democracy can be and why it must be protected at all costs. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara acknowledged both the wins and the setbacks in the state’s democratic journey, noting that staying committed to democratic values is more important than ever.

He ended by encouraging the people of Rivers State to stay patriotic, committed, and hopeful, confident that together, the state will come out stronger and more united.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has said that former president Goodluck Jonathan stands no chance against his principal if he decides to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Bwala, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, cautioned Jonathan against yielding to pressure from those urging him to return to the race. According to him, such calls are only aimed at ruining the former leader’s hard-earned reputation.

“I can see that certain people are trying to lure former President Jonathan back into politics just so they can damage the image he has carefully built since leaving office,” Bwala said. “After his time in government, he rose to become a respected international figure, and going back would put that at risk.”

While Jonathan has not publicly declared any political ambition, Bwala stressed that even if he chooses to run, he does not have the strength to defeat Tinubu. “If Jonathan eventually throws his hat into the ring, I can tell you with facts from the political climate today that there is no politician capable of dislodging President Bola Tinubu,” he added.

Former Big Brother Naija winner and actress, Josephina Otabor, better known as Phyna, is in deep pain after her younger sister was involved in a ghastly accident with a truck linked to the Dangote Group.

The incident happened shortly after her sister, Otabor Bodon Ruth, had finished celebrating her graduation from Auchi Polytechnic. According to witnesses, a Dangote truck ran into her as she was leaving the school premises. Also, the driver allegedly tried to flee the scene but was chased down and caught by a lecturer who saw everything.

The accident left Ruth in a critical condition. Doctors were forced to amputate one of her legs to save her life, and there are growing fears that the second leg may also be lost if her health does not improve.

Phyna, devastated by the news, took to social media to call out the Dangote Group. In an emotional post, she accused the company of trying to sweep the matter under the carpet. She claimed that the police had been told to remove the license plate from the truck involved, raising fears that evidence could be tampered with.

She wrote that while her family was battling to keep Ruth alive, company officials were allegedly more concerned with covering up the situation. Additionally, she warned that neither the truck nor the driver should be released from custody, insisting that she would not allow her sister’s suffering to go unnoticed.

Dangote Refinery Reduces Cooking Gas Price to Less Than ₦800

The Dangote Refinery has once again shifted the energy market in Nigeria, this time by slashing the price of cooking gas to below ₦800 per kilogram, the cheapest the country has seen in years.

For months, Nigerians have battled with skyrocketing LPG costs that often ranged between ₦1,000 and ₦1,300 per kilogram, forcing many families to turn back to kerosene or even firewood. During a recent facility tour, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, promised to change that story. Now, he appears to be making good on his word.

The refinery, which produces around 22,000 tonnes of LPG daily, has enough capacity to influence prices across the country. By selling directly and avoiding multiple layers of middlemen, the refinery has pegged its ex-depot price at roughly ₦815/kg, undercutting other suppliers whose prices float between ₦825 and ₦900/kg.

If this trend holds, a standard 12.5kg cylinder could now sell between ₦10,200 and ₦11,000, compared to the ₦13,500 to ₦14,000 many Nigerians currently pay. For households struggling with high living costs, this is no small relief.

Many citizens have welcomed the move, praising Dangote for making clean energy more accessible. “People should not be cooking with firewood anymore,” he said, urging Nigerians to embrace safer and healthier alternatives.

But not everyone is pleased. Some long-standing gas marketers worry about being pushed out of the business. Industry players argue that while cheaper gas is welcome, Dangote’s dominance could edge smaller distributors aside and tilt the market too heavily in his favor.
