Former Big Brother Naija star Natacha Akide, better known as Tacha, recently opened up about her decision to relocate to the United Kingdom.

The reality TV personality, who first rose to fame during the 2019 edition of the popular reality show, explained that she made the move because she felt she had “conquered” the Nigerian market and needed new challenges to grow her brand further.

In a candid conversation with British media personality Madame Joyce on the Cocktails & Takeaways podcast, Tacha shared insights about her career shift and the challenges influencers face in Nigeria.

While she made it clear that relocating to the UK doesn’t mean she’s cutting ties with Nigeria, she admitted that the financial rewards of the Nigerian influencing scene no longer meet her expectations.

“I’ve relocated to the UK because I feel like I’ve conquered the Nigerian market,” she said.

“But this doesn’t mean I won’t take Nigerian deals. If the deal makes sense, of course, I’ll go for it.”

Tacha, who has been one of Nigeria’s most notable influencers since her Big Brother Naija debut, described the Nigerian influencing industry as not as glamorous as it appears.

While the country has seen a boom in social media marketing and brand partnerships, the financial compensation has lagged behind rising costs and the demands of maintaining a public image.

She revealed that the typical payment for a six-month influencing deal, which includes posting two videos per month, hovers around ₦6 million (roughly $3,000).

This fee structure, she noted, hasn’t changed since 2019.

At the time, it was reasonable, especially given Nigeria’s economic conditions.

However, with the naira’s depreciation and the increasing costs of maintaining a high-profile influencer lifestyle, the value of such deals has significantly diminished.

“Back in 2019, ₦6 million was decent,” Tacha explained.

“You could book flights and still have enough to invest in yourself.

But now, $3,000 barely covers expenses if you’re traveling abroad, trying to look good, and maintaining your brand.

The exchange rate has made it nearly impossible to survive on those deals.”
