Renowned filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, celebrated for his work on “District 9,” is set to direct a new adaptation of “Starship Troopers” for Sony’s Columbia Pictures. This upcoming film will revisit Robert A. Heinlein’s 1959 science fiction novel, distinguishing itself from the 1997 satirical movie directed by Paul Verhoeven.

The 1997 “Starship Troopers” film offered a satirical take on Heinlein’s novel, critiquing fascism and militarism. In contrast, Blomkamp’s adaptation aims to remain more faithful to the original text, exploring themes of citizenship, duty, and the complexities of a militarized society.

Joining Blomkamp in this endeavour is his wife and collaborator, Terri Tatchell, who will co-write the screenplay. The duo previously earned acclaim for their work on “District 9,” which received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Blomkamp’s filmography, including titles like “Elysium” and “Chappie,” is known for blending science fiction with socio-political commentary. This background suggests that the new “Starship Troopers” adaptation will delve into the novel’s intricate themes while delivering the director’s signature visual storytelling.

On June 11, the group released a new single titled “Bad Influence”, and to celebrate, they’ve teamed up with the viral designer toy brand Labubu for a limited-edition collection.

The single, produced by Pharrell Williams, brings a new sound for Seventeen—bold, catchy, and confidently modern. Pharrell’s influence adds a smooth edge to their usual pop energy, and the song’s release comes with an eye-catching visual style that fits perfectly with the group’s sharp choreography and strong presence.

The Labubu Collaboration

Alongside the music, Seventeen launched a creative collaboration with Labubu, the playful toy figure that’s been going viral thanks to its quirky style and strong fan following. For this special drop, 14 limited-edition Labubu figures were designed to reflect Seventeen’s bold tour look.

Each doll wears a tiny gray Carhartt jumpsuit, bold green fur, silver chains, and painted nails—styled just like the group’s outfits. BTS Almost Back Together as Jimin and Jungkook Return from Military Service

BTS fans around the world had a big reason to celebrate on June 11 as Jimin and Jungkook officially completed their military service in Yeoncheon, South Korea. This means that six out of seven members are now done with their service, and only Suga remains, set to finish by June 21.

Jimin and Jungkook both appeared in uniform as they were discharged. They kept things low-key but warm, thanking fans and their fellow soldiers. Jimin spoke about how much he appreciated ARMY’s patience, especially during the long break. Jungkook, known for his emotional connection with fans, shared a short but sincere message, saying he was grateful and looking forward to returning.

The excitement wasn’t just at the base. Fans had gathered at a nearby stadium early in the morning, holding signs, wearing BTS merch, and sharing snacks as they waited for updates. Even though HYBE had asked fans not to crowd the base itself, their presence nearby showed just how much this moment meant.

Just a day earlier, on June 10, RM and V had also wrapped up their service.

RM had served in the military band, and V in the special task force unit. Earlier in 2024, Jin and J-Hope had completed their service too. Now, with Suga being the only member left, the group is just days away from being whole again.

To mark the occasion, HYBE lit up its headquarters in Seoul with the message “WE ARE BACK”, sending a clear sign that the comeback countdown has officially begun. On social media, fans were quick to join in—posting emotional edits, memes, and heartfelt messages welcoming the members back. Hashtags like #JikookIsBack and #BTSReunionSoon started trending almost immediately.

BTS is also celebrating their 12th anniversary this week, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
