At least 13 people tragically lost their lives on the busy Kaduna-Abuja expressway following a severe accident on Friday.

This is according to Kabir Nadabo, Kaduna State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Nadabo confirmed that the incident, which took place around 3 p.m. near Olam Farm, involved a high-impact collision between a Toyota Hiace, carrying 11 passengers, and a Golf Saloon with five occupants.

The Toyota was marked GTG 96YA, while the Golf was registered as RBC 369XE.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, moving the deceased to St. Gerard’s Hospital, while three injured survivors were transported to AP Smart Hospital in Kakuri for urgent medical care.

Describing the accident as a sombre reminder of the risks on the road, Nadabo stressed the importance of safe driving practices, particularly the need to curb excessive speeding, which he identified as a major factor in the crash.

Highlighting the onset of the ‘ember’ months—a period often associated with a rise in road accidents due to increased travel and road congestion, Nadabo urged drivers to strictly follow speed limits and practice safe driving.

The FRSC, he emphasized, remains committed to promoting road safety, especially as the year-end approaches, and advised all motorists to adhere to traffic rules to protect themselves and other road users.

He expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State Government for its ongoing support of the FRSC’s efforts to make highways safer, which he said is critical as the Corps works to reduce accident rates.
