Kano Officials Probed Over N1.5bn Scholarship Fraud

The Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission is investigating an alleged N1.5 billion fraud tied to a foreign scholarship scheme. Authorities are questioning two officials from the Ministry of Higher Education about the program, which claims to have sent 1,001 students to India and Kenya for postgraduate studies.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf started the scheme to sponsor 1,001 students for master’s degrees abroad. However, only 418 students actually traveled, raising concerns about the rest. Kabiru A. Kabiru, the Commission’s spokesperson, confirmed the investigation and promised legal action against those involved in the scam.

Soldiers Rescue Four Captives, Neutralize Two Bandits in Kaduna

Troops in Kaduna State have successfully rescued four abducted victims and neutralized two bandits during a ransom collection attempt in Mai-Iddo village, Kachia Local Government Area.

The victims, including three women and a child, had been abducted from a farm last week.

The bandits were killed when they attempted to collect a N1.5 million ransom, following a planned operation by the military. The rescued victims have been reunited with their families, according to local sources.
