Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), reassured Nigerians that the proposed tax reform bills will not introduce new taxes or raise current ones. Speaking at a session with the Senate Committee on Finance, Adedeji emphasized that the reforms will simplify tax administration and reduce the number of taxes without affecting jobs or merging agencies.

President Bola Tinubu submitted four tax bills to the National Assembly to streamline tax laws, modernize systems, and expand Nigeria’s tax base. Adedeji also announced that the FIRS will be renamed the Nigeria Revenue Service to reflect its broader functions. Lawmakers praised the FIRS for its strong performance in non-oil revenue collection.
