Nigerian Authorities Unveil Streamlined Petrol Import Regulations

Published

on

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has introduced new regulations to simplify the process of obtaining petrol import licenses by consolidating various operational guidelines into a single document. The new 2024 Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Operations Regulations revoke previous rules managed by the now-defunct Department of Petroleum Resources and aim to streamline the regulatory process in the petroleum industry.

During a stakeholder engagement in Abuja, NMDPRA Managing Director Farouk Ahmed highlighted the importance of stakeholder consultation before finalizing regulations, as mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act.

The new regulations will consolidate 12 existing guidelines, addressing inconsistencies and enhancing compliance. They will also outline the fees for industry activities and detail penalties for regulatory violations, making it easier for stakeholders to navigate and understand the rules governing the midstream and downstream sectors.
