Obasanjo Criticizes the Current Leadership in Nigeria for Its Inadequacies and Failures
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has raised important concerns about leadership issues in Nigeria and Africa. In a recent interview with Kayode Akintemi on News Central Television, he criticized the current president for not having a clear plan when taking office.
Obasanjo noted that the president often makes broad statements without proper research or preparation.
He questioned the wisdom of a Nigerian president entering office without a strategic plan.
He stressed that good leadership requires careful planning and working with knowledgeable people to create effective policies.
He expressed doubts about vague plans, like a “three-point plan,” asking what these points mean and who contributed to them.
Recalling his time as military Head of State, Obasanjo shared how his administration took steps to support neighbouring countries during the struggles against colonialism and apartheid.
This effort showcased Nigeria’s commitment to regional struggles, despite its distance from the conflicts.
Obasanjo pointed out that the country often takes steps forward but then backtracks, which stops progress.
He called for more focus on leadership skills, planning, and smart decision-making to improve Nigeria’s position in the world and tackle current challenges.

He shared his thoughts, saying the governor likely consulted with his close allies before making key decisions.
“My assumption is that the governor would have gone with his own close allies, discussed with them, and said that this is the best way, that he has to move forward for the next six months or thereabouts of his administration. I would assume that’s what he did.”
“But I am not in his chamber, so I wouldn’t know. But that’s what I would assume he would do.”
He added “But having taken the responsibility to come and finish his term, then he has to finish it in the way that allows him to govern. He can’t go back into fighting.”
Politician and former President Olusegun Obasanjo speaks on Nigeria and shares that the possibility of Nigeria surviving another civil war is quite low.
He revealed that the issues that led to the Biafra War have not been resolved and that if another war breaks out, it will be much harder to resolve.
Reflecting on the civil war, he shared “The conditions that led to the Nigerian civil war years ago still remain unresolved.”
“I was involved in the civil war, but whenever people ask me about the Asaba massacre, I always tell them I cannot give details because Murtala Muhammed was responsible for operations in that area.”
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose pleads with the government and President Tinubu that the minimum wage needs to be increased.
He shared that the current minimum wage of ₦70,000 is not enough considering the current state of the country and urged the government to increase it to ₦200,000.
“President Tinubu, have mercy on our people and increase the minimum wage to ₦200,000 now. I don’t think anyone can survive on the current ₦70,000 minimum wage. ₦70,000 is nothing. If we don’t solve the minimum wage problem, we can’t solve crime.”
