Nigeria Police Clarifies Legal Age for Prosecution Amid Outcry Over Minors’ Court Arraignment

The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that anyone over the age of seven can legally face court charges if found culpable.

This statement, issued by police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, was in response to public criticism over the recent arraignment of 67 minors in Abuja, accused of treason and public property damage during an “End Bad Governance” protest.

In an interview with Channels TV, Adejobi explained, “Those below age seven cannot be criminally liable. Once above seven, a person can be charged, though certain procedures must be followed.”

He added that none of the charged minors are younger than 13, which legally qualifies them for court proceedings under the Children and Young Persons Act.

Residents of Lagos should prepare for traffic disruptions as several roads will be closed due to the visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is set to commission infrastructural projects.

The commissioning will take place on April 8 and 9, 2026.

Affected areas on Wednesday (April 8):
Opebi, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Ojota, and Victoria Island.

Affected areas on Thursday (April 9):
Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Ajegunle.

Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and expect heavy traffic during these periods.
