NDLEA Thwarts International Drug Syndicate Attempt, Seizes N4.5 Billion Worth of Cocaine at Lagos Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 845 wraps of cocaine, weighing 18.72 kg, from an Ethiopian Airlines flight arriving at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA). The cocaine, valued at approximately N4.5 billion, was hidden in the lavatories of flight ET900, which arrived from Addis Ababa on October 29, 2024.p
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that the illicit drugs were smuggled from Brazil to Ethiopia, ingested by couriers, and later excreted in Addis Ababa. The drugs were then hidden in the aircraft before an attempted transfer into Nigeria was thwarted by NDLEA operatives, assisted by the airline and airport authorities.
In a related operation, NDLEA agents also blocked attempts to export 2.9 kg of cocaine, cannabis, and tramadol, disguised in body cream containers and artwork, to Australia, UAE, and the UK via courier companies on October 28.

US President Donald Trump criticizes the Nigeria government once again after the increase of insecurity over the past few days. The president stated that the government is failing to protect Christian communities from the attacks going on.
“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said. “They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping.”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar speaks out against the rising insecurity in the country. He urged the government to take action and claimed that it is not too late to declare a state of emergency.
He reacted after another news of abduction of students was announced on the 21st of November.
“How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken? It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
