Community Rallies Behind Fired Music Director as Questions Arise Over Diocese’s Decision
Members of the community are speaking out in support of a beloved music director after his abrupt firing from the church. Martin and Rev. Lingaur, when asked about the details, referred to a statement issued by the Diocese, avoiding further comment.
Choir member Sherry Koenig expressed frustration, saying, “Somebody got wind of that and did some digging. It’s despicable what has happened and how it has happened. Mr. Fred is kind, honorable, and caring.”
In response to the sudden job loss, the director’s husband, Bill Thompson, has launched a GoFundMe to help cover essential expenses like insurance and legal fees.
While many community members have rallied behind him, the Traverse City Record-Eagle reported that the music director, Szczepanski, declined to comment on whether he plans to pursue a wrongful termination lawsuit.
