Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed his belief that Nigeria is far from being a truly democratic nation, drawing a stark comparison to the United States of America.

The award-winning artist shared his thoughts during an appearance on a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, where he spoke about politics, democracy, and his views on leadership.

Reflecting on his experience with American democracy, Davido revealed that he had no problem congratulating former U.S. President Donald Trump after his electoral win, even though he personally voted for Kamala Harris, a member of the Democratic Party.

Harris, who was Joe Biden’s running mate, became the first female vice president of the United States, marking a historic moment in American politics.

Speaking candidly, Davido said, “I congratulated Donald Trump because, at the end of the day, he won.

That’s the president! What are you talking about? Even if I had run against him, I would still have congratulated him.”

The Nigerian artist, who has spent a significant portion of his life in the U.S., contrasted this with the political climate in his home country.

“What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from, it’s not so,” he said, expressing disappointment in Nigeria’s flawed political system.

Davido also shared his personal reason for supporting Kamala Harris during the election.

“To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation.

That would have been cool,” he admitted.
