Cucurella Urges Sanchez to Stay Focused After Losing Chelsea Starting Spot
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has spoken out in support of his teammate Robert Sanchez, encouraging the goalkeeper to keep working hard and avoid unnecessary attention as he navigates a difficult period in his career.
Sanchez, who secured his spot as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the season under new manager Enzo Maresca, has faced increasing scrutiny after a series of costly mistakes in the Premier League.
Maresca has already taken action, dropping Sanchez in favor of Filip Jörgensen for Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over West Ham United. This decision has fueled speculation that the manager may permanently replace him as the club’s main goalkeeper.
When asked about Sanchez’s situation in an interview with AS, Cucurella acknowledged the challenges but expressed confidence that his teammate will recover.
“It’s a tough time for him, but what matters most is that he keeps working and stays away from too much attention,” Cucurella said. “Every player at Chelsea has had difficult moments. The key thing is to stay focused, keep pushing, and be ready for the next opportunity when it comes.”
