Yul Edochie Condemns Southeast Killings Says True Leaders Protect Their Own
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has expressed deep concern over the rising violence in Nigeria’s southeast, questioning the actions of those who claim to be fighting for Biafra but end up killing their own people.
In a passionate post on his Facebook page, Edochie made it clear that there is no justification for harming fellow Igbos, regardless of ideological differences. He argued that true strength lies in protecting one’s people, not destroying them.
“An Igbo man says he’s fighting for Biafra, yet he turns around and kills his own people. So who exactly is he fighting for?” Edochie questioned.
He went further to emphasize that only cowards resort to such violence, while true leaders and warriors shield their people from harm.
“Only a coward kills his own to prove a point. A true man stands firm and protects his people at all costs,” he wrote, adding a strong Igbo saying, “Onye gbuo nwanne ya abụrọ odogwu”—which translates to One who kills his brother is not a great man.

“Rather than play the ostrich and cover up clear terrorism as mere farmer-herder clashes, the Nigerian state has a responsibility to invade the camps of armed marauders who hide under the cloak of herdsmen of whatever ethnicity, and who invade defenceless communities and gleefully massacre unarmed men, women and children.”
