Deschamps Supports Zidane to Take Over as France Coach in 2026

France’s head coach, Didier Deschamps, has thrown his support behind Zinedine Zidane as a potential successor when he steps down in 2026.
In his first interview since announcing his departure, Deschamps confirmed he would leave his role in January 2026, sparking discussions about who will take over. Zidane has emerged as a strong contender, with many believing he is the natural choice to lead Les Bleus.
Speaking to L’Équipe, Deschamps acknowledged Zidane’s credentials, saying, “There is a lot of respect between us.
We last met in the summer of 2023 and should see each other again next summer. Zizou is a very good candidate, natural, and even expected. But I don’t know if he actually wants the job.”
