Chelsea’s 2024 Squad Becomes the Most Expensive in Football History
A new UEFA report has revealed that Chelsea’s squad at the end of the 2024 financial year is the most expensive ever in terms of transfer fees.
The annual European Club Finance and Investment Landscape report analyzes Europe’s top leagues, shedding light on how much clubs are spending and earning.
According to the findings, Premier League teams continue to dominate the transfer market, with English clubs’ spending rising by 17% to a record €2.1 billion in 2023.
Among the 20 most expensive squads in world football, nine are from the Premier League, with Chelsea leading the list. Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022, the club has signed 41 players across six transfer windows.
The report confirms that Chelsea’s squad at the close of the 2024 financial year cost a staggering €1.656 billion in transfer fees, making it the most expensive squad ever assembled. This figure surpasses Manchester United’s 2023 squad, which had a total cost of €1.422 billion.
