Infantino Says Drake Could Headline the First World Cup Halftime Show in 2026
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has responded to the idea of Canadian superstar Drake headlining the first-ever halftime show at the 2026 World Cup final.
FIFA recently announced that Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, is helping plan a Super Bowl-style halftime show for next year’s World Cup final.
During an interview with Fox5, Infantino reacted positively to the suggestion of Drake being the main act.
The host proposed the idea, saying, “I have a great idea for the halftime show — Drake! Since Kendrick Lamar did his thing at the Super Bowl…”
Infantino agreed, saying, “That’s a good idea. We could create a bit of rivalry, right? Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities… We’ll work on getting him for the halftime show.”
The 2026 World Cup final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which will be renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament, on July 19, 2026. FIFA also plans to host a major event at Times Square during the final weekend of the competition, which will be co-hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada.
