Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker turned politician, Funke Akindele, has opened up about her future in politics after stepping away from the spotlight following her 2023 election loss.

The actress had previously run as deputy to PDP’s Lagos governorship candidate, Abdulazeez Adediran, but they lost to APC’s Babajide Sanwo-Olu. After the election, Funke quietly cleared her social media of all political content and remained silent—until now.

Speaking during the first live edition of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, Funke revealed that the experience hasn’t discouraged her. In fact, it fueled her desire to return to politics.

She shared how the journey taught her strength, courage, and the power of having a voice, especially after observing inspiring female leaders like Abike Dabiri. According to her, politics opened her eyes to deeper knowledge about her state and country, helping her grow more informed and confident. When asked if she plans to run again, her answer was clear and bold: “Oh yes.”
