Cardi B vs Security Guard: 2018 Incident Court Case and All That Happened

After years of legal back-and-forth, rapper Cardi B has officially been cleared in the civil case brought against her by former security guard Emani Ellis. The dispute, which dated back to 2018, started from an encounter while Cardi was pregnant and visiting her doctor in Beverly Hills.

The drama started in February 2018 when Cardi B was four months pregnant and kept it private. She went to an OB-GYN appointment. According to reports, Ellis, who worked as a security guard, tried to record Cardi without her consent. That moment triggered an argument inside the doctor’s office.

Ellis later claimed the confrontation went beyond words. In her lawsuit, she alleged that Cardi scratched her face with a fake nail, spat at her, insulted her, and left her emotionally scarred. She demanded $24 million in damages. Also, she said the incident caused her trauma which affected her life and career.

In the courtroom

The case finally went to trial in August 2025. It drew heavy attention because of Cardi’s fame and Ellis’ serious accusations. In court, Cardi firmly denied ever laying a hand on Ellis. Cardi insisted it was only a verbal exchange caused by the invasion of her privacy.

Her defense was backed by witnesses, including a doctor and receptionist, who both testified that while the argument was tense, they saw no evidence of physical assault. The testimonies painted a different picture from Ellis’ version, and it made it difficult for her legal team to prove their claims.

After deliberations, the jury returned with a unanimous decision: Cardi B was not liable. The verdict meant the jury did not believe Ellis had provided enough proof to back her accusations.

Cardi B’s Reaction

Outside the courtroom, Cardi didn’t hide her relief. She told reporters she was glad the truth came out, saying she had never touched Ellis. She also warned that moving forward, she would not hesitate to counter-sue anyone filing baseless lawsuits against her, instead of quietly settling. At the same time, she urged her fans not to bully Ellis online.

Despite all the tension, her fans supported and believed her. They shared memes of her facial expressions at the court on social media with some of her quotes from the stand “I’m pregnant. This girl’s about to beat my ass. She’s security heavy. She looked like she could protect the building”

After her win, Cardi celebrated in style. She appeared in a striking polka-dot Valentino suit worth $10,000, then later joined in on the fun by posting playful TikToks about the case.

She even turned this into art, with teasers of limited-edition “courtroom-inspired” covers for her upcoming album “Am I the Drama?” set to drop later this month.
