Charlie Kirk Shot While Speaking at Utah Valley University Event
Conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk, was shot during a public event at Utah Valley University on Tuesday. This has sent shockwaves across the political space in the United States.
Kirk was in Orem, Utah, as part of his “American Comeback Tour,” where he hosts live debates and discussions with students under the banner “Prove Me Wrong.” The hall was packed with thousands of attendees when, shortly after noon, a gunshot rang out. Witnesses say the 31-year-old was struck in the neck. And this incident caused chaos as the crowd screamed, ducked, and scrambled for safety.
According to officials, the shot appeared to have come from outside the venue, possibly from a nearby rooftop or building overlooking the campus. Security forces quickly rushed in, and law enforcement agencies including the FBI have since joined the investigation. Authorities said one person was briefly taken into custody but later released, as no direct evidence tied them to the shooting.
Kirk was rushed to the hospital, where his condition has been described as critical. Confusion spread online soon after, with some outlets prematurely reporting his death, while others stressed he was still alive but fighting for his life. As of now, no official medical confirmation has been given on whether he has passed away.
The incident has ignited a fierce conversation about political violence and the safety of public figures in today’s America. Leaders across party lines have condemned the shooting, describing it as an attack not just on one man, but on open dialogue and democratic engagement.
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has spoken about what he considers one of the country’s biggest problems, stating that many Nigerians are worried about government taxation, insecurity, and the increasing rate of kidnappings for ransom.
He lamented the situation and criticized the government, arguing that these issues have become deeply rooted and that there appears to be no lasting solution in sight.
According to him “In Nigeria we have two governments. One is collecting tax, the other one is collecting ransom. Both of them have one thing in common which is to make life difficult for their people.
The one that is collecting tax without doing anything will come and share you rice and semolina. The one that is collecting ransom is doing giveaway on social media.”
It was reported that bandits were seen in Kwara State and abducted six residents from Rukpete Village.
The incident was reported to have occurred on June 8 at about 11 p.m.
Sources revealed that seven people were initially taken, but an elderly man was later released, leaving six victims in captivity.
The rising cases of insecurity in the country remain quite alarming.
The state of the country is affecting many people, as they believe nowhere is safe, including schools where they keep their children.
It has been reported that some parents have started withdrawing their children from schools in Abuja.
It can be noted that rumours of bandits being sighted near a school triggered panic, causing parents to hurriedly remove their children for safety.
While the reports of bandits have not been confirmed, the school has also issued safety measures to ensure the protection of students within the premises.
