Tiwa Savage has opened up about why she isn’t fully embracing the title “Queen of Afrobeats,” despite fans often calling her that.

In a recent chat with Apple Music’s Ebro, the award-winning singer explained that while she values the love and recognition, the label makes her uneasy. According to her, being singled out as the only “queen” doesn’t sit right because many other female artists also deserve credit for shaping Afrobeats.

She added that accepting such a title feels like it comes with heavy responsibility and expectations. “They call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are a lot of us who are queens,” she said. Tiwa noted that the tag likely stuck because she was one of the first Nigerian female artists to break into the global scene, but she stressed that she doesn’t see herself as the sole face of the genre.
