Flood Wreaks Havoc in Edo: Residents Count Losses in Affected Neighborhoods

Residents of several neighborhoods in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, are facing significant losses due to recent flooding.
Reports indicate that 85 houses have been submerged and properties worth millions of naira destroyed following heavy rainfall over two days.
The flood has severely impacted areas including Uffa, Ugbogbo, Afekhai, Orere, Domingo Road, Lawani Road, Momodu Ajayi Road, and Ibillo-Auchi Road.
Priscilla Osiobafoh, Executive Director of BraveHeart Initiative, highlighted that out of the affected houses, 50 have been extensively damaged.
She attributed the flooding to various factors, including water from the Orere rock, collapsed bridges, and the improper disposal of refuse in drainages.
Osiobafoh emphasized the urgent need for improved drainage systems to manage water flow effectively.
Victims like Ms. Feyintola Eshamah and Ms. Stella Agbarajo expressed devastation over losing their homes and belongings to the floodwaters.
They called on government authorities at all levels to provide assistance to affected residents.
The council chairman, Tajudeen Alade, acknowledged the situation and stated that the local government had reported the incident to higher authorities for support.
He also highlighted challenges such as poor sanitation and illegal construction contributing to the severity of the flooding.

Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price to N825 per Litre

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has lowered the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, to N825 per litre, down from N835, as competition heats up in Nigeria’s fuel market.
This follows last month’s price reduction, when the 650,000 barrels per day refinery dropped the price from N865 to N835. The recent price change is aimed at providing more value to customers while strengthening Dangote’s position as a leader in the domestic market.

“Without Talking About Peter Obi None of Them Gets Attention” – Obidient Movement Says

The Obidient Movement has fired back at Omoyele Sowore over his recent comments downplaying Peter Obi’s role as an opposition figure. Sowore, speaking on Channels TV’s Inside Sources, had said Peter Obi shouldn’t be considered part of the opposition, claiming the Labour Party candidate hasn’t taken a stand against the Tinubu administration and stayed silent on issues like fuel price hikes.
But in response, Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, said Obi remains one of the most talked-about figures in Nigerian politics, proving his influence and relevance. “If he’s not a real opposition, why does everyone keep talking about him?” Tanko asked. “The truth is, without mentioning Peter Obi, none of them gets attention. Everything he says or does becomes headline news.”
He also criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for bringing up Obi’s name during a tribute event, accusing him of using the moment for character attacks rather than addressing national issues. “Instead of focusing on policies, they’re attacking Peter Obi’s character,” Tanko said. “They should let him keep doing what he does best — standing up to the system for the sake of the Nigerian people. That’s what he’s committed to, and that’s what we’ll keep supporting.”
