PDP Governors Back Rivers State Governor Amid Political Crisis
The Peoples Democratic Governors Forum has declared its support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State amid the ongoing political turmoil. In a meeting at the Enugu State Government House, the governors committed to broader consultations with stakeholders to achieve a peaceful resolution. The forum attendees included governors from various states, emphasizing their unified stance behind Fubara.
Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed highlighted the group’s dedication to resolving the crisis in Rivers State, while also criticizing the economic decline under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. The governors lamented the erosion of progress made during the PDP’s 16 years in power, including low inflation and higher living standards. They called on Nigerians to avoid anarchy and expressed optimism about the PDP’s return to power in 2027.
The political crisis in Rivers State is attributed to a conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Federal Capital Territory Minister. The discord began with an attempt to replace the state House of Assembly’s leadership, resulting in an impeachment notice against Fubara. The notice was withdrawn following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention and defections from the PDP to the APC by some lawmakers.
