Lagos Announces 90-Day Traffic Diversion on Odo Iya Alaro Bridge

The Lagos State Government will implement a 90-day traffic diversion on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge starting July 22, 2024, due to deteriorating road conditions.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced that the diversion will occur in two phases, affecting the Ojota bound lane and the Yaba/Ojuelegba/Maryland bound lane.

Phase One:

– Motorists to Ojota from Maryland/Yaba will use a counter flow lane inbound Maryland.

– Alternative routes include Alapere/Ogudu axis to Gbagada/Anthony Oke Bridge for those from Berger, Magodo, and Tollgate.

Phase Two:  

– Motorists to Maryland/Yaba from Ojota will use a counter flow lane inbound Ojota.

– Similar alternative routes will apply as in Phase One.

Additional alternative routes from Ikeja, Oregun, Kudirat Abiola Way, and Jibowu are provided to ease traffic during the diversion. Traffic management personnel will ensure smooth flow during the repairs.

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has alerted Nigerians residing in flood-prone areas to relocate, following the release of water from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam into River Niger and River Benue.

The release, which began on September 18, 2024, poses flood risks to 11 states, including Adamawa, Kogi, Benue, and Bayelsa.

NIHSA urges individuals to clear drainages and avoid floodplains. This comes days after severe flooding in Borno killed over 30 people.
