Controversial Nigerian Surgeon Dr. Anu Nigeria Dies After Prolonged Illness

Dr. Adepoju Anuoluwapo, also known as Dr. Anu Nigeria, has recently passed away.
Renowned for her controversial and often disastrous Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgeries, Dr. Anu’s death has sparked a wave of mixed reactions online.
She was the founder of MedContour Services LTD and had been a contentious figure in the field of cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Anu’s reputation was marred by a series of poorly performed BBL operations that resulted in severe complications and disfigurements for many of her patients.
Her passing comes after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. The nature of her death, coupled with her troubled professional history, has led to a range of sentiments on social media, with some expressing sorrow and others feeling a sense of vindication.
The news of her death was first reported by popular Instagram accounts Gossipmill and Cutie Juls, quickly becoming a trending topic online.
In the aftermath, several videos surfaced showing Dr. Anu in a hospital bed, frail and weakened by her illness.
Before her death, Dr. Anu faced significant legal troubles. In May 2004, she was sentenced to one year in prison by a federal high court in Lagos.
Her legal issues were exacerbated in 2020 when the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) began investigating her practices following the tragic death of a patient, Nneka Onwuzuligbo, due to a botched surgery.
The investigation revealed serious concerns about the safety and efficacy of her procedures.
Dr. Anu was subsequently charged with five counts of misconduct. Although she was convicted, her sentence was suspended upon payment of a fine of N100,000 per count.
This legal and professional turmoil, combined with her recent illness and death, has left a complex and troubling legacy that continues to stir debate and reflection among her former patients and the wider public.
