Governor Fubara Warns of External Threats to Rivers State
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed credible information indicating that mercenaries and thugs have been hired from outside the state under the guise of protest to destroy valuable infrastructure. He emphasized that residents of Rivers State have decided not to participate in the planned 10-day nationwide protest set to begin on August 1. This statement was made during a meeting with representatives from Civil Society Organisations, the National Association of Nigerian Students, ethnic and youth groups, and the Port Harcourt Motor Spare Parts Dealers Union at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, highlighted ongoing public and clandestine activities aimed at destabilizing Rivers State. He stressed the importance of avoiding any actions that might give detractors an opportunity to cause chaos. Fubara expressed concerns about potential property and economic damage, referencing the prolonged recovery time seen in other regions like Kenya. He urged caution and responsible conduct during any protests to prevent such outcomes.
Acknowledging the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians, Fubara noted that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is implementing measures to address these issues and secure a better future. He encouraged activists to consider all perspectives behind the planned protest and not support it solely to please individuals dissatisfied with the current system.
