A tragic incident occurred in Kebbi State when a businessman was killed by a stray bullet during a violent protest in the Yauri local government area.

The victim, who was selling plastics in his shop, was struck by a bullet fired by marine police stationed near the Yauri River.

The protest, which had initially begun as a demonstration, intensified as protesters blocked the federal highway, leading to severe traffic disruptions entering Yauri town.

In response to the escalating unrest, the marine police resorted to firing shots to disperse the crowd.

Unfortunately, one of these shots went astray and struck the businessman, whose name has not yet been released.

The local community, represented by Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, expressed concern over the situation, indicating that the protest had significantly affected the town’s operations.

Attempts to reach the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for an official comment were unsuccessful, as the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, did not respond to inquiries made via calls or text messages.

Despite the chaos in Yauri, the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, remains relatively calm in the aftermath of the protests.
