Toke Makinwa Criticized for Looting Remarks During Protests
Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa faced significant backlash after condemning looting and vandalism during the ongoing national protests on August 1, 2024. On X, she criticized the destruction, stating it was wrong for Nigerians to steal from each other during such hardships. This comment drew criticism from users who accused her of not supporting the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement, leading to heated exchanges.
One user criticized her lack of support for the movement, prompting a blunt response from Makinwa. Another user defended her, arguing that the ruling party orchestrated the theft to frame peaceful protesters, to which Makinwa clarified her stance.
Further criticism came from a user who accused Makinwa of being aligned with the government and claimed she was paid off. Makinwa responded by questioning why the critic was not protesting in the streets, suggesting their anger was misplaced. This controversy highlights the deep divisions and tensions surrounding the national protests and the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement.
Nigerian actor Jim Iyke has spoken about his marriage and why it ended.
The actor revealed he was going through emotional struggles that affected his relationship with his wife and home.
He said “I lost my spark, and my wife suffered for it. And then I became an obsessive dad. I gave everything in me to my son. I was a proper stay-at-home dad.”
“I became an excellent father but a woeful husband. After a while, she said, ‘I can’t find the man I married anymore.’”

He took to social media and compared the situation with South Africa, saying:
“See how South African people came out to carry out a mission and their government supported them quietly. You see their police force supporting them too.”
“But here in Nigeria, our police are looking for yahoo boys and private chef girls, and the youths are not even ready to stand up to take back their country from these evil politicians.”
