Chidimma Adetshina Exits Miss SA Amid Fraud Allegations
Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant in the Miss South Africa pageant, has decided to withdraw from the competition, citing concerns for her safety and that of her family. Her decision follows a wave of controversy after the South African government accused her mother of fraud and identity theft. Since being named a finalist in July, the 23-year-old has faced xenophobic attacks on social media, with her credentials being questioned by many, including government officials.
The controversy prompted the Home Affairs Ministry to investigate her citizenship at the request of the pageant organizers. The investigation reportedly found “prima facie indications” that Chidimma’s mother may have committed fraud by stealing the identity of a South African woman shortly after Chidimma was born. In an Instagram post, Chidimma expressed her gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey but emphasized that her family’s safety is her top priority. She also extended her best wishes to the remaining finalists, expressing her gratitude for the experience.
