Nigerian international music sensation, Divine Ikubor, famously known as Rema, has generously donated N105 million to Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State.

The Edo-born artist was in his home state to partake in the Edo@33 celebrations, where he performed at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 6,000-seat Edo Dome and took part in a musical concert held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, following an invitation from the state government.

Rema’s donation was directed to the Edo Regional Headquarters of Christ Embassy, situated on Erediauwa Street off Ekenwa Road.

The singer expressed that the generous contribution was a gesture of gratitude for the church’s unwavering support of his family during a challenging time in his childhood.

Attending the church’s thanksgiving service, Rema reflected on the critical role the church played in supporting his family after the tragic loss of his father when he was just eight years old.

He recounted how the church stepped in during this difficult period, helping them rebuild their lives.

“I’m not here to seek recognition or accolades for myself. I’m here to give all the glory to God,” Rema stated during his speech.

He emphasized the importance of showing appreciation to the church, which he credits for providing spiritual and emotional support for his family.

“I felt it was important to give back to the church that embraced me, prayed for me, and helped keep me grounded spiritually.”

The young artist went on to share his experience of loss and hardship after the passing of his father. “When I was eight, I lost my dad, and my family was left feeling lost and abandoned.

Everything we had was taken from us, and we were left with nothing. But I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas from this church stepped in and opened a shop for my mum. It was through that shop that she was able to take care of us and provide for our family.”

Moved by the church’s generosity and care during such a critical time in his life, Rema decided to give back in a significant way. He pledged a total of N150 million to support various initiatives within the church.

“First, I’m pledging N40 million for the infrastructural development of the church, N20 million towards the Rhapsody of Realities publication, and, considering I grew up in the teen church, I would like to donate N25 million to the youth ministry,” Rema announced during the thanksgiving service.

In addition to these contributions, Rema made a special commitment to assist the widows in the congregation.

“If there are any widows in the church today, I pledge N20 million to support all the widows in attendance,” he added, further highlighting his spirit of giving and appreciation.

This act of generosity not only reflects Rema’s gratitude but also serves as an inspiring example of giving back to the community that supported him during his formative years.
