Northern Elders Urge Tinubu to Reject Bandit Leader’s Reconciliation Bid
In light of a recent video reportedly showing bandit leader Bello Turji seeking reconciliation with the Federal Government, northern elders have urged President Bola Tinubu to disregard these overtures.
Alhaji Mustafa Dutsinma, the Northwest chairman of the Arewa Elders Progressive Group, issued a stern warning against entertaining any form of reconciliation with individuals linked to banditry.
In a statement released from Kaduna on Thursday, Dutsinma expressed concerns that such a move would undermine the ongoing efforts to combat banditry.
He highlighted the current positive sentiment among the public, who are increasingly supportive of the military’s efforts in the region.
Dutsinma criticized Turji’s purported attempt at reconciliation as a mere facade, given the extensive history of violence and loss attributed to him and his group over recent years.
“Recent reports suggest that President Tinubu is contemplating a reconciliation with notorious bandit Turji and his allies,” Dutsinma said.
“We strongly advise against this approach as it risks setting a dangerous precedent and compromising the government’s battle against banditry.”
He emphasized that any attempt to reconcile with those responsible for heinous crimes would be a betrayal of public trust and justice.
Dutsinma praised the military’s ongoing operations, particularly in Shinkafi and Jibia, and called for the continuation of these efforts to ensure effective results.
Furthermore, he condemned the idea of negotiating with bandits as a disrespect to the victims and their families who have endured significant suffering.
Dutsinma also acknowledged the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing banditry, noting the recent deployment of key military and defence officials to the affected areas.
The elders’ stance underscores the critical need to maintain a firm approach against banditry and uphold justice for those who have been affected by the violence.

Court Orders Immigration Service to Issue Passport to Benita Ezumezu, Awards ₦3 Million Damages
Justice Nwite of the Federal High Court has ruled in favor of Benita Ezumezu, directing the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to issue her international passport immediately.
The court found that Ezumezu had fulfilled all requirements for obtaining a passport by October 6, 2022, but was unjustly denied.
The judge also awarded ₦3 million in general damages, emphasizing the need for accountability in public service delivery.
Citizens’ Common (CC), the civil society organization employing Ezumezu, praised the judgment. Olalekan Oshunkoya, CC’s Chief Executive, stated, “This landmark judgment not only secures Benita’s rights but underscores the broader challenges Nigerians face with service delivery in government agencies.”
Oshunkoya highlighted the poor service quality of the NIS in recent years and called for sustained improvements. He also urged Nigerians to seek legal remedies against inefficiencies in public services, asserting that “the law remains a shield against bad experiences.”
The judgment reaffirms citizens’ right to quality service, particularly when tied to fundamental freedoms like the right to movement.
The Police Service Commission approves the promotion of 8053 police officers in the Nigeria Police Force. On Monday 11 commissioners were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General while 16 Deputy Commissioners were moved to Commissioners.
Promotion also happened among the Assistant commissioners, Chief Superintendents, Deputy Superintended and so on.
Additional promotions included Aminu Mohammed Abdulkadir, Mohammed Yusuf Adamu of Base 3 SPU, and Isa Ibrahim Umuoru from Border Patrol. Officers such as Omoarebun Iluobe, CSO to the Delta State Governor, and Shaaba Gboyako Adamu, CSO to the Imo State Governor, were also promoted.
Westminster Magistrates Court has ruled against Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, leading to the seizure of over £2 million from their accounts due to unpaid taxes linked to their online businesses.
The funds, held in seven frozen bank accounts, were traced to the Tates and a woman identified as J. Authorities allege the brothers funneled substantial sums, including cryptocurrency, through accounts in J’s name, despite her lack of involvement in their ventures.
Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring described the scheme as a “straightforward cheat of the revenue,” uncovering years of alleged tax evasion and money laundering. Devon and Cornwall Police revealed the brothers accrued millions between 2014 and 2022 without paying taxes or VAT.
Andrew Tate, however, criticized the ruling, claiming it is part of a “coordinated attack” to silence dissent. “This is not justice; it’s theft disguised as legal action,” Tate said in a statement.
The brothers are also facing separate criminal charges in Romania, including allegations of human trafficking and rape, and are set to be extradited to the UK.
