In a tragic incident in Ogun State, a group of individuals suspected to be involved in internet fraud, commonly known as ‘Yahoo boys,’ caused a devastating accident that resulted in the death of a one-year-old child and left several others injured.

The accident occurred on Thursday when a grey Lexus ES350, with registration number APP429JN, veered off course and struck pedestrians.

The accident involved 27-year-old Ishola Qudus, who was driving the Lexus, accompanied by three passengers.

According to reports, the vehicle, which was reportedly occupied by individuals who had been drinking, lost control and overturned after hitting the pedestrians.

The primary victim, Ogunbunmi Rukayat, 24, was carrying her one-year-old daughter, Sekiniat, on her back when the vehicle collided with them.

Tragically, Sekiniat was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta. Rukayat and another injured pedestrian, Adeola Olufolake Elizabeth, 60, are receiving critical medical attention.

The Ogun Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the accident, explaining that the vehicle overturned after hitting the victims.

She noted that Qudus, who is suspected of being an inexperienced driver, attributed the accident to a loss of control.

The driver and his three passengers—Azeez Adesanya, Olamide Oyedola, and Suliman Ogundele—sustained minor injuries and were treated for their wounds.

To ascertain whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, Qudus was taken to Aro Psychiatric Hospital for a toxicology test.

Former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has filed a motion to amend her lawsuit challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) order for the final forfeiture of her seized assets.

At a Federal High Court hearing in Abuja presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, Alison-Madueke’s counsel confirmed filing the amendment motion and serving the EFCC. Notably, no EFCC representatives appeared in court.

The embattled ex-minister also sought an extension of time to contest the EFCC’s public notice regarding the sale of her confiscated properties, claiming she was denied a fair hearing during the forfeiture proceedings.

The EFCC, however, rejected Alison-Madueke’s allegations, maintaining that the forfeiture cases were lawfully adjudicated over time.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the case to February 17, 2025, to consider the motion to amend the originating process.
