Adamawa Youths Celebrate Independence Amid Government Cancellation
Young men and women from the Adamawa Concerned Youths took to the streets of Yola on Tuesday, celebrating Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary despite the state government’s abrupt cancellation of its planned festivities.
Initially, the government had organized the event, securing cultural troupes for entertainment and mobilizing schools for a parade at Mahmud Ribadu Square. However, after a security meeting held by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri with military leaders on the eve of Independence Day, the government decided to cancel the celebration for security reasons.
In a relatively quiet Yola on Tuesday morning, the Adamawa Concerned Youths held a solidarity march, expressing their belief that Nigeria has made significant progress since independence. They praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in addressing the country’s challenges. The group’s convener, Yakubu Umar Girei, highlighted the fiscal reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration, noting improvements in economic recovery and social welfare across various sectors in Nigeria.
