ADC Says Tinubu Should Forget About 2031 and Get Ready to Hand Over Power in 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized the Presidency over its recent claim that President Bola Tinubu has no intention of staying in power beyond 2031.
In a statement released on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party dismissed the remarks as arrogant and undemocratic. It stressed that Tinubu’s tenure ends in 2027 and insisted that Nigerians deserve and will choose a more competent leader by then.
The ADC expressed deep concern over the worsening state of the nation, particularly the collapse of the naira, rising insecurity, and the harsh economic climate. According to the party, the government has failed to address the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
“Security has become a national tragedy,” the statement read. “Terrorists and bandits operate freely, citizens are abducted in broad daylight, and rural areas are under siege. The government has shown neither the strength nor the resolve to tackle this menace.”
On the economy, the ADC noted that inflation is spiraling, food prices have tripled in many regions, and jobs are disappearing. It added that businesses are struggling under inconsistent policies and heavy taxation, pushing more Nigerians into hunger and poverty.
The party concluded that rather than talk about extending power, President Tinubu should face the reality of Nigeria’s dire situation and prepare to hand over in 2027.

Analyst Says Tinubu Not Responsible for Recent U.S.-Linked Airstrike Claims
Nigerian news analyst, Mahmud Jega, has shared his opinion on the recent airstrike carried out by the United States in Nigeria, stating that Nigerians should not blame President Bola Tinubu for the incident.
Jega made this statement during a recent interview, where he said he does not believe many people will hold the Tinubu administration responsible, as Donald Trump had issued threats against Nigeria long before Tinubu’s administration.
“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
