After a thrilling conclusion to the Copa America 2024 in Miami, USA, Argentina emerged victorious over Colombia with a narrow 1-0 win in the final, securing their retention of the prestigious trophy.

The decisive goal came in the 112th minute courtesy of Lautaro Martinez, marking his fifth goal of the tournament and earning him the coveted Golden Boot as the top scorer.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez claimed the Golden Glove award for his impressive tally of 5 clean sheets throughout the competition.

 

Colombia’s James Rodriguez was recognized for his stellar performance with the Golden Ball award, having contributed 6 assists during the tournament.

The prize money distribution reflected the competitive intensity, with Argentina receiving Rs 133.66 crore for their triumph, while Colombia earned Rs 58.47 crore for their commendable campaign.

The referee reveals how it was his first time in a semi final and was kind of nervous. “I’ve been to three AFCON tournaments, but this is the first time I’ve been in a semi-final.”

“So when coaches choose you for that game, they know your skills and what you can do. But of course, you feel a little nervous because of the level of the match.”
