Atalanta Player Ademola Lookman Hits Back at Coach’s Penalty Criticism After Defeat
Nigerian Player Ademola Lookman expresses displeasure with criticism over missing a penalty in recent match against Club Brugge.
The match ended in a sad defeat of Atalanta’s 3-1 to Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Due to the tension after the match the coach spoke critically to the media “Ademola Lookman is one of the worst penalty-takers I’ve ever seen.”
Reacting to the remark, Ademola shows his displeasure in a post on his Instagram page. “It’s not only saddening me on a day like this to have to write this statement most of all because of what we have achieved together as a team and as a city.”
He expresses his hurt and understanding for the recent match. He shares that the team is hurting and he takes responsibility for the penalty miss but shares his sadness over being singled out and criticized.

The referee reveals how it was his first time in a semi final and was kind of nervous. “I’ve been to three AFCON tournaments, but this is the first time I’ve been in a semi-final.”
“So when coaches choose you for that game, they know your skills and what you can do. But of course, you feel a little nervous because of the level of the match.”
