Former presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid by APC governors and leaders of the National Assembly, calling it a desperate move from a panicked administration. The endorsement came during the APC National Summit in Abuja, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared Tinubu the party’s and Nigeria’s sole candidate for the 2027 election.

Reacting through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku said the approval of Nigerians, not political endorsements, will decide the future of the country. He criticized the Tinubu-led administration for focusing on 2027 while the nation struggles with worsening insecurity and economic hardship.

“Our coalition is confident because we’ve prepared well,” Ibe told journalists in Abuja. “It’s the Nigerian people who will decide, not staged endorsements. The way this administration is behaving shows they are clearly worried.” He added that while families battle rising food prices, school fees, and lack of access to healthcare, the government seems more interested in political drama than solving real problems.

Spiritual leader Primate Elijah Ayodele warns the APC against being too confident ahead of the 2027 election.

He shared “Overconfidence will kill APC; they will be too overconfident, and that will be the party’s weakness in the election. They will turn Tinubu to a demi-god, but it will make them lose the election. They believe money can do everything, but it will fail in the 2027 election,” Ayodele said.

Ayodele has repeatedly warned the APC not to assume that its current political strength will automatically translate into victory in 2027.
