Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okunneye, better known as Bobrisky, is set to be released from jail on August 5. Bobrisky is currently serving a six-month prison sentence for abusing naira notes, a sentence handed down by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on April 12, 2024. Despite reports of harsh conditions, celebrity journalist Stella Dimoko Korkus revealed that Bobrisky has been enjoying certain privileges during his incarceration, including access to the internet and phone calls.

Korkus noted that while Bobrisky is technically imprisoned, he has been granted special allowances and has not been entirely restricted from communication. The crossdresser’s upcoming release on August 5 was highlighted as part of ongoing public interest in his case.

In response to circulating rumors about Bobrisky’s prison conditions, the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) issued a statement clarifying that he is not receiving any special treatment. The spokesperson, Rotimi Oladokun, debunked claims of Bobrisky residing in a VIP apartment within the Kirikiri facility. According to Oladokun, Bobrisky shares a cell with other inmates and does not have access to exclusive amenities. The correctional facility’s infrastructure is designed for shared accommodation, with no provisions for private or luxury cells.
